When DOC decided to move their Queenstown offices to the banks of the Shotover River, they wanted to do a highly sustainable commercial office refurbishment of an existing building. We not only beat out a heap of other architectural firms from around the country to win the tender, we substantially extended DOC’s brief with a number of New Zealand firsts and innovative solutions throughout this rigorous project.
New bathrooms in the building were designed to service DOC, the main tenant.
The building is multi-faceted, which is reflected in the dormer. The historic Edith Cavell bridge can be viewed in the background.

Meeting room
The acoustically clad meeting room has the flexibility to be divided into two smaller meeting rooms, as shown.
The reception area features a reused timber reception desk. Crown fern integrated pots and map of their region offer daily reflection of DOC’s external responsibility.
Specific departments were divided by purpose-designed screening joinery that also serve as storage. Heat recovery ventilation is delivered by stainless steel droppers from the ceiling.
